Capital Planning · Meeting of January 30, 2026

Nantucket's Capital Program Committee trims $252 million in requests to a $65.2 million recommendation for town meeting. Members voted unanimously to approve the agenda and prior minutes, then moved by consensus to recommend funding for Tom Nevers debris removal, a water department truck, and sidewalk and cobblestone repairs. The panel left a roughly $7 million town employee housing request off its recommended list after Howard argued "the request itself is not justifiable," while Caroline countered she is "extremely supportive of the town employee housing." Members also agreed to recommend betterments or capacity fees to help fund the $43 million Somerset Road sewer debt exclusion, which would affect about 400 properties, and left the roughly $126 million Nantucket Island Home replacement unresolved pending a final bid due at the end of March.
