Other Committee · Meeting of October 26, 2026
Nantucket's Community Preservation Committee held off funding Habitat for Nantucket after learning the nonprofit must now repay a $3.5 million construction loan in full. Board president Stephen Morey told the committee Habitat's Nancy Ann Lane project shifted from grant funding to a loan it must repay using proceeds from its 22 existing homes, calling it "an existential threat to the model." Committee member Dawn called the four-unit project "the perfect model for Nantucket," while another member said the Affordable Housing Trust pulls in "$6.5 million every town meeting" and demanded to know "where the hell that's gone." The committee scheduled a November 9 deliberation session and asked Habitat, ReMain Nantucket and the Nantucket Historical Association to submit follow-up materials by November 6 before any funding decisions are made.
