Conservation · Meeting of October 22, 2026
Nantucket's Conservation Commission approved an enforcement order letting SBPF place roughly 10,000 cubic yards of sand on the eroded north and south ends of the Baxter Road geotube array. The roll call vote passed 5-0, with Chair Seth Engelbourg participating by phone from a ferry and estimating the delivery at "less than 10 percent" of a sand deficit exceeding 106,000 cubic yards. SBPF representative Chip Nyland said "the purpose of the enforcement order is to bring us into compliance," while Vice Chair Linda Williams confirmed the sand would go only on undamaged end-scour areas, "not" the sliced geotube sections.
Commissioners continued the separate question of repairing the vandalized lower tier, still awaiting a Town Counsel opinion on licensing, to the November 5 meeting for scheduling purposes only.
