Nantucket Finance Committee unanimously clears 13 technical amendments before Town Meeting

NANTUCKET — April 30, 2026 — Nantucket Finance Committee approves 13 technical warrant amendments ahead of Annual Town Meeting. The committee voted unanimously Thursday to adopt a slate of corrections and additions to Town Meeting articles, the most significant being a supplemental appropriation of up to $2 million in free cash for the long-delayed Harbormaster Building and a $850,000 sewer fund borrowing for a Fairgrounds Road sewer line replacement that had been inadvertently omitted from the capital budget. Town Manager Libby Gibson also reported that bids on the town employee housing project put the base phase — six apartments and nine bedrooms across two buildings, plus site work on all three parcels — within the existing $7 million appropriation, at a per-bedroom construction cost of $677,542, while the full three-site buildout of all six planned buildings is estimated at approximately $17.5 million. Two amendments remain contingent on board action: an Article 63 zoning-language revision requires Planning Board adoption Monday, and an Article 34 Community Preservation Committee budget transfer for the Maria Mitchell House requires a CPC vote Friday.
