NANTUCKET — The Nantucket Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously to formally hire Morgan Sayle as its administrator, ending a 10-month standoff with town administration over pay and hours. The committee said it had requested 30 hours a week at $45 an hour but the town approved 25 hours at roughly $39.52 an hour, up from an initial offer of 19 hours at about $35. Members said four prior candidates were lost during the drawn-out negotiation.
Vice Chair Joseph F. Topham seconded the hiring motion. The chair said "the DOR would come down on the town hard" if Sayle had been paid before the vote.
Separately, the committee withdrew a fiscal 2028 Community Preservation Act application from the Nantucket Education Trust for school housing after the state ruled it ineligible, and continued review of 18 remaining applications to October 16. The committee approved its August 18 minutes 2-0 with two abstentions.
