Conservation · Meeting of October 29, 2026
Nantucket's Conservation Commission advanced four regulatory updates, including a first-ever fertilizer restriction tied to its wetland jurisdiction. Chair Seth Engelbourg led commissioners RJ Turcotte, Joseph Plandowski, Tim Braine, John Schafer and Linda Williams through an October 29 special session devoted solely to the town's Wetland Protection Regulations, Chapter 390. The panel unanimously adopted new definitions for "temporary shade apparatus" and "bioengineered materials," voted to have Conservation Agent Will Dell'Erba draft a stream-crossing performance standard modeled on new state guidance, and authorized him and the Chair to draft a fertilizer-use rule limited to the commission's jurisdiction.
Dell'Erba said the commission can "assess civil penalties up to twenty-five thousand dollars per violation" against scofflaws, and acknowledged "we have no proof" existing pool-drainage conditions have ever been followed. All items now head to Town Counsel.
