Nantucket Harbor Board Votes to Forward Great Harbor Yacht Club Fuel Complaint

NANTUCKET — June 16, 2026 — Nantucket harbor board forwards fuel-compliance letter targeting Great Harbor Yacht Club to the Select Board. The Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board voted 5-0 on June 16 — with Select Board member Robert Sherwin recusing over dual-board conflict concerns — to send a letter asking the Select Board to press the state Department of Environmental Protection to enforce Great Harbor Yacht Club's Chapter 91 waterfront license, which the board contends requires the club to provide fuel to mariners. Board member Robert Anderson argued that truck fueling had worked at the site for roughly two years before breaking down over insurance disputes and a prior operator blocking access, and that "it can be done." The board had previously been rebuked by the Natural Resources Department for writing directly to club General Manager Stephen Greaves, a move it acknowledged as procedurally improper. Anderson told new member Kevin Corn there is currently no place on the island where a commercial fisherman can haul out and paint a boat bottom without going to the mainland — the opposite of what residents were promised when the boatyard was converted to a yacht club.
