Nantucket Parks Commission Approves Church Beach Baptism, Advances Multiple Capital Projects

Other Committee · Meeting of July 16, 2026

Nantucket Parks Commission approves church beach baptism request, advances capital project pipeline for fall. The commission voted unanimously Thursday to allow Summer Street Church to hold a worship service and beach baptism at Children's Beach on August 2, with roughly 80 guests expected; Cultural Affairs and Special Events Coordinator Weatherly reported no issues from a similar event last year. Director Charlie Palacki briefed the three-of-five-member commission on a broad capital agenda: the Nobadeer multi-sports court reconstruction is expected to go out to bid in the first week of August; Tom Nevers Phase 2 debris removal is in permitting; and the Tom Nevers hockey rink and Delta fields fencing projects are awaiting account numbers.

Palacki also flagged Children's Beach playground — now over 10 years old — and a bench replacement program there as new capital submissions for this fall's town meeting cycle, and said he is pursuing coordination with the school construction project to align synthetic turf replacement at Nobadeer with the school's turf production run for potential cost savings. Officer elections were deferred to August after one commissioner could not attend.
