Other Committee · Meeting of October 20, 2026

NANTUCKET — A Nantucket transportation committee agreed to recommend making North Mill Street one-way from Prospect Street after years of unsafe vehicle exits. Acting Chair Ed and member Joe described trucks and trailers spinning tires trying to pull out, prompting a plan to widen the entrance and add a berm, with engineer Jeff Blackwell designing the fix before it heads to the Planning Board. Resident Arthur Gasparro suggested a simpler option: a "do not enter" sign on North Mill Street facing town-controlled Prospect Street.

Staff member Mike told the panel that fare-free NRTA bus service, funded through the state's millionaire's tax, could require a local appropriation "in the neighborhood of like $200,000, $300,000" a year if state funding lapses. Ed also raised inconsistent speed limits on Tom Nevers Road and Boulevard. The meeting closed with a 4-0 roll-call vote to adjourn.
