Panel Says It Was Left Out of E-Bike Summit
Nantucket's Transportation Planning and Advisory Committee said it was shut out of a town e-bike safety summit.
Other Committee · Meeting of August 18, 2026
Nantucket's Transportation Planning and Advisory Committee said it was shut out of a town e-bike safety summit. Member Ian asked staff point-blank, "And so what is the point of this committee?" after learning the panel had no seat at an interdepartmental meeting on e-bike and pedestrian safety convened by police with the schools and hospital. DPW Director Drew separately told the committee that roughly 40 downtown parking spaces in the two-hour district effectively block sidewalks, adding that "parking on the sidewalk in Massachusetts is illegal." Members also pushed back on a proposed Walwinnit Road bike path design, with resident Rick Atherton calling some forum options "not reasonable." No formal votes were taken beyond a unanimous motion to adjourn.
