Nantucket Cemetery Commission votes to install Boston family monument at 9:30 a.m. on Juneteenth. The commission set June 19, 2026, as the inauguration date for the monument honoring the Boston family in the historic African American cemetery, timing the ceremony so attendees can walk directly to the African Meeting House afterward. A commissioner said she is coordinating with Sage Morgan Hubbard of the Museum of African American History and a hospital physician identified as Dr.
Kim to clear a pathway and signage from the hospital's emergency room entrance before the ceremony. The commission separately approved final wording for a granite memorial stone at Quaker Cemetery, with a contractor identified as Johnny cleared to proceed to sandblasting. Town staff member Jason reported that a ground-penetrating radar survey was wrapping up at Old North Cemetery and that surveying firm Blackwell is under contract to perform a boundary retracement and install four concrete monuments at Newtown Cemetery, with that contract heading to the Select Board around April 1.
