Nantucket Land Bank Approves Consulting Amendment, Directs Single-Driveway Staff Housing Layout

Other Committee · Meeting of March 10, 2026

Nantucket Land Bank approves a nearly $50,000 consulting amendment and advances staff housing plans at its March 10 regular meeting. The commission unanimously approved the amendment to its contract with Horsley Witten to carry the engineering work through construction, with staff noting the firm had absorbed rate and design changes while locked into earlier pricing. Craig Piper of SMRT presented site plans for 159 Hummock Pond Road, where two historic buildings relocated from 41 Jefferson Avenue will be sited; the commission directed SMRT to pursue a single-driveway compound layout rather than a second curb cut off Hummock Pond Road, with an HDC submission set for the following Monday.

Modular staff housing duplexes at 166 Hummock Pond Road are expected to arrive in May and be ready for occupancy in September, while work at 125 Somerset Road carries a December target. Two tenant farmers — Grandfather's Farm and Fogtown Farm — delivered annual updates highlighting blueberry expansion, food-insecurity wholesale partnerships, and a proposal to consolidate aging greenhouses. The commission also opened discussions on converting the large dog park's surface to p-stone, with commissioners insisting on public outreach and surveys before any ground is broken.
