Nantucket Airport Commission Endorses Permanent Terminal Addition Over Rooftop Option

Other Committee · Meeting of March 10, 2026

Nantucket Airport Commission unanimously backed Option B, a permanent terminal addition, and began pushing a $2 to $3 million fuel farm expansion toward this spring's town meeting. Chairman Arthur Gasparro and Commissioner Biscarin, who reviewed both terminal options in a subcommittee the prior week, recommended the permanent addition over Option A's seasonal rooftop hold room concept, citing accessibility costs, security risks, and Nantucket's weather. The design team from Fennec McCready and McFarland Johnson put Option B's preliminary site-civil cost at $2 million versus $1 million for Option A, with total project costs still at a feasibility level.

Commissioners Levitt and Marks presented fuel subcommittee findings recommending four new double-walled storage tanks to bring capacity to roughly 72,000 gallons, with an authorization target of up to $3 million drawn from the approximately $4.8 million fuel revolver. The commission also approved a $165,000 emergency fence contract with LNC Company and a $122,220 Tradewind Aviation lease, while tabling a disputed Airport Gas sublease after commissioners flagged that the tenant was capturing six years of market rent appreciation the airport is not sharing.
