NANTUCKET — May 26, 2026 — Nantucket Land Bank approves basic summer amenities for newly opened Jefferson Avenue beach parcel. At its May 26 regular meeting, the Land Bank Commission voted unanimously to install two port-a-potties on the north side of the 41 Jefferson Avenue beach property and a water spigot for foot rinsing, with optional screening, as the site prepares for its first public summer season. A planned garage relocation that would have added parking was deferred to fall after staff determined the work required a new three-month bidding process; the site opens with 14 spaces. The commission also unanimously authorized a $68,000 state and federal permitting scope for the 1619 East Creek Road restoration project and approved moving forward with construction bid documents for the Lily Pond restoration, whose updated cost estimate has risen to the mid-$6 million range, up from an earlier $5.7 million figure, with construction targeted to begin in September. A vote on a memorandum of understanding with the Sconset Trust for the Field of Dreams property was deferred after a commission member raised concerns about open-ended maintenance cost-sharing language, with staff agreeing to review the document before the next meeting.
